Blankets for Cancer Patients 30th Anniversary Appeal
We are so grateful to the many people who got involved with this anniversary campaign to help patients going through treatment.
Why did we do this? Having spoken to someone who had been through treatment, we found out that many patients feel extremely cold even during the summer months and are unable to afford increased heating costs. We thought we would ask the local community to help us to support those people and we never imagined we would get such a fantastic response. So many people have used up their spare wool to knit and crochet squares for us and we'd like to thank you all. Huge thanks also go to the following who have acted as collection points;
We would also like to thank Scott Bader and the employees who have donated time to help with making the blankets and also who have funded the packaging materials.
Wendy from Loving Hands has also been a huge support to us. If you would still like to carry on knitting for charity please contact her at [email protected]
Join Loving Hands at Wellingborough Museum each Thursday 10.15 - 12.00 to knit/crochet with other crafters over a coffee. They are happy to help if you are a beginner
If you are still interested in knitting blankets for patients then please get in touch with The Lewis Foundation www.facebook.com/thelewisfoundationnorthampton

February update
We have received so many lovely squares in a rainbow of colours and designs - some knitted, some crocheted. We cannot believe how this has taken off! We have also had 5 complete blankets donated to us and wool for others to use including two whole bin bags of brand new wool from one lovely lady. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far - we really appreciate your support.

March Update
We have received another two complete blankets and so many squares - the photo was taken at the Loving Hands meeting at Wellingborough museum.
Thank you to everyone who is getting behind this campaign. We would particularly like to thank the knitters from St Margaret's Church, Denton and St Peter's Church, Raunds and Northampton Volunteering Centre. Wendy from Loving Hands Wellingborough has taken the crocheted squares which she is kindly making into two blankets. We will now start to sew together the knitted ones. If anyone could offer any help in doing that, it would be much appreciated. We now have a drop-off point for squares in Kettering - Lollyrocket in Gold Street (opposite Boots). A lovely little vintage shop with a tea-room selling the most amazing looking home-made cakes.

We have been busy making a start on sewing squares together but we would welcome any help in that department. We are now looking at how to wrap and donate the blankets to cancer patients who would like one. keep checking the gallery as we add more blankets all the time.

June Update
And they keep coming! We are delighted with the response to this campaign. We have loads of squares ready to stitch into more blankets. Thanks also to Manfield Crafts for the almost-complete blanket which is being finished off - it's beautiful. We will keep collecting all year so we will have so many lovely blankets to gift to cancer patients. If you haven't got involved yet, it's not too late to start - we would love 6" squares in any colour, pattern, knitted or crocheted.

July Update
Even in this hot weather, people are still knitting and crocheting for us and we send you our thanks. We have collected lots more squares and 10 complete blankets too. We've even had a box of squares delivered from St Michael's Church in Basingstoke whose yarn group have got involved. We never dreamt that we would get this level of support but it's fantastic. Our next plan - and it's a bit ambitious! - is a Celebrity Squares blanket. We would like to make a blanket out of squares made by celebrities which we can then auction for the charity so if you know anyone who can help, please pass the message on.

November Update
And still the squares keep piling in! Thank you for continuing to support us with this. We would like to thank Scott Bader, Wollaston for giving us two more volunteer days and for the staff who have helped to sew lots of blankets together for us. We were delighted to welcome Rhian Langford from Northampton General Hospital Oncology Unit to one of these sessions and to hand over bags full of beautifully-wrapped blankets to here which have already been distributed to some of the cancer patients. We have more ready to give to Kettering General Hospital soon and even more to wrap up for them both. We really appreciate the help that everyone has given to enable us to do this whether you've made a square, sewn a blanket together or have been a collection point - thank you all.

We handed over 48 beautifully wrapped blankets to Rhian, the Macmillan Information and Support Lead from Northampton General Hospital, at Novacroft - employee Cheryl (who is in the photo) has been sewing blankets together for months to help us and we are so grateful. These blankets will now be given out to patients receiving cancer treatment at the hospital and they will be able to keep them for their own personal use. They are greatly appreciated by the patients who use them to keep warm whilst having chemo or to brighten up their beds. They make a real difference and the committee and Rhian would like to thank everyone who has knitted/crocheted/sewn for us. We still have squares that need to be sewn together and if you would like to help us make these in to blankets, please get in touch.

Cheryl is still busy making blankets and we have also received more from Voluntary Impact. We also received a truly stunning blanket from Glenda Nelson in memory of her sister Jacqueline who sadly lost her battle with cancer in June. All of these blankets will be wrapped and handed over to the hospitals as, even in this warmer weather, patients undergoing chemotherapy can be very cold. Thanks to all who are helping us to deliver these blankets - much appreciated.
